Pre-Operative Therapy Visit:

Prepare Your Home and Yourself for a Safer Recovery

Planning for Orthopedic Surgery?

Don’t wait until after the procedure to start thinking about your recovery. At Harmony Health Network, our Pre-Operative Physical and Occupational Therapy Visit is designed to set you up for success, starting before you ever enter the operating room

This One-on-One Session, held in the comfort of your home, is tailored to maximize your safety, comfort, and confidence during those first crucial days post-surgery.

We Prepare Your Home for Recovery

We’ll walk through your home to identify and remove any potential fall hazards, such as loose rugs or poor lighting. Then, we’ll help you:

  • Set up your walker or crutches to your height for immediate use post-op

  • Safely position your shower chair, raised toilet seat, and grab bars

  • Designate and set up a safe recovery space for doing your home exercise program

  • Practice navigating stairs, narrow hallways, and bathrooms with post-op precautions in mind

.

We Prepare Your Body for Movement

Using your specific surgeon’s post-op protocol, we’ll help you:

  • Practice safe bed mobility, toilet transfers, and getting in/out of the car

  • Learn how to walk with weight-bearing or motion restrictions based on your procedure

  • Rehearse using assistive devices with skilled guidance to build muscle memory for Day 1 post-op

  • Set realistic expectations for what movements are safe—and what to avoid

We Teach You What to Watch For

Peace of mind comes from being informed. We’ll discuss key red flag symptoms you and your caregivers should watch for, including:

  • Signs of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) or blood clots

  • Symptoms of infection or delayed healing

  • How to manage or prevent post-op constipation or medication side effects

  • When to call your doctor vs. when to call 911

What You’ll Walk Away With:

  • A Clear Understanding of your post-op instructions

  • A safe, Functional Home Setup for recovery

  • Confidence in using your walker, crutches, or other mobility tools

  • Strategies for daily living tasks with restrictions

  • A head start on your Home Exercise Program

  • Less Stress and fewer surprises after surgery
